    Wytold

Wytold plays an electric cello with two extra strings, allowing him to capture the depth and power of a stand-up bass, the rich tonal timbre of the acoustic cello, and the bright crispness of violin solos and harmonies. Wytold creates his own rock-orchestral accompaniment through live-looping, blending his classical roots from Strings class and Youth Orchestras with contemporary rhythms, modern song structures, and rock and jazz-inspired improvisation.

Wytold’s music has been featured on NPR and in the Sundance award-winning and EMMY-nominated film Blood Brother, and he has recently performed at TEDx Foggy Bottom, studied with Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble, and is an NS Design Featured Artist. His chamber ensemble was accepted as one of the top five finalists in the 21st Century Musician Emerging Artist Competition in Greencastle, Indiana.

Wytold is a recent Strathmore Artist in Residence, and recipient of several grants from the Maryland State Arts Council and DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. He is also actively composing and performing several commissioned works with the acclaimed contemporary dance company, Christopher K Morgan & Artists. In addition, Wytold teaches alternative cello lessons and leads regular music workshops for Veterans and family members at USOs located at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Fort Belvoir.
