Mystic Nights Reflections

 

It is our pleasure to release our second CD in less than a year. This work shows a noted maturity from its predecessor, Through an Open Door, and proves the Muse that we followed to be True. The Open Door sessions were exciting—leading, as it were, down an uncharted path.  Open Door gave us a foothold in a new musical direction and here we have added an element of playfulness to that stance. New colors and textures are now present, as is a cohesive element of composition.  Mystery and suspense, call and response, have become more refined and our musical Voice has emerged.

 

This is chamber jazz; an intimate conversation between two veteran musicians.  The conversation will draw the listen into a realm of surreal sounds and images that they have perhaps never heard before. This is improvisational music at its elemental level, with various contrary elements  all coming into play. This music gives a refreshing breath of fresh air after listening to today’s mass produced media of normal music.

 

This latest work draws its inspiration from the Mystic River, located just below the fire escape of our recording studio. The haunting scenes of the old wharf, the swirls and undertow of the various currents, the moments spent staring into the still waters, the sunsets that we had watched so often, and all the unknown events that took place in those waters, are present in this release.
